In addition to the development sessions delivered by NHS Education Scotland (NES), Childsmile Coordinators also deliver courses locally.
Extended Duties Dental Nurse Mentor Training
A training package is available to support the EDDNs identified mentors in their place of work. This package provides details of the Childsmile six-module NES training, information on the programme and an understanding of their roles and responsibilities. It may be advantageous to have the mentors and EDDNs together for at least part of the training, so they understand the roles involved. To access this training please contact your local coordinator.
CPD has been agreed nationally for these training sessions. For more information please contact Childsmile@nes.scot.nhs.uk.
Supporting NHS NES resources
Competencies briefing sheet – outline of the seven-competency framework for DOPs training.
Reflective diary – Instructions and examples of reflective diaries for mentors and trainees taking part in DOPs training.
Developing local awareness sessions
Childsmile Coordinators have access to generic slides to support the delivery of local awareness sessions.
Health visitors are required to have an understanding of their role in delivering and supporting families with oral health advice according to the Health Visitor Pathway. The PowerPoint presentation above has been developed as an editable resource to allow for local variation.
Verifiable lunchtime CPD courses are available via TURAS Learning platform.
