Register for a Turas Learn account
If you are preparing to complete the six-module Childsmile training you must register for a Turas Learn account to gain access to all training materials.
Participants must apply for courses themselves. However, when booking, potential applicants must contact their local Childsmile Coordinator in order to agree mentoring arrangements and receive local support. It is advantageous for participants to have an opportunity to undertake workplace shadowing before attending the training.
Dental nurses require to have identified a mentor who will assess clinical competency. They will require to be a hygienist, therapist or dentist and have current registration with the General Dental Council (GDC).
Training Payments to General Dental Practices
On completion of training, the dental nurse will receive an email with the process for completing the Childsmile training claim form.
Once the form has been completed and returned to NES, this information will be forwarded to Practitioner Services and the Practice will receive £540.00 remuneration in monthly Schedule for releasing the dental nurses onto training.
Protected Learning Time
All agenda for change staff are entitled to have protected learning time and this should be discussed with their line manager. Childsmile staff who are not employed under agenda for change should discuss with their line manager what the commitment is and whether there will be study time allocated within the working week.
