Local arrangements are made within individual NHS Boards to ensure every child receives a dental pack and free flow cup at around six months of age. This is followed by oral health packs at eight months, 13-15 months and 27-30 months.
In addition, oral health packs are provided at age two years, and at ages three and four in nursery, where children will receive at least two dental packs per year. In Primary 1, at least one dental pack will be distributed to all children.
Packs will also be available for Childminders who may choose to deliver a toothbrushing programme within their home. A Childminder leaflet has been developed to support delivery within this setting. The Scottish Government Oral Health Community Challenge Fund supported the Scottish Childminder Association to develop a training resource to support Happy Teeth.
The Baby box includes a toothbrush to support the message that toothbrushing should start as soon as the first tooth appears.
