Childsmile is aimed at children from birth. We make sure that you get the help you need at home as well as at the dentist.
Your health visitor will introduce you to Childsmile and give you oral health advice and provide you with a free dental pack containing a toothbrush, toothpaste of at least 1000 parts per million (ppm) fluoride and oral health messages.
If you’re looking for a dentist in your area, you can search for dentists on the NHS inform website.
They may also introduce you to a Dental Health Support Worker who may visit you at home and give you help and guidance on looking after your child’s teeth. If you are worried about going to the dentist, your dental health support worker can accompany you to your appointment.
At the dental practice, you will be given advice and support from the dental team, who will show you how you can stop your child from suffering from tooth decay in the future.
The dental team will give you information on:
- how teeth grow and develop
- teething
- food and drinks
- toothbrushing.
From the age of two, the dental practice team can provide additional preventive care, such as fluoride varnish and fissure sealants.
