Mouth care can be challenging for many, particularly those who require additional support.
Support for toothbrushing
Childsmile provides advice on how to brush a child’s teeth, other sites that can help are Parent Club and Brush my teeth.
Alternative toothpaste
Children who experience sensory differences may prefer flavourless toothpastes and toothpastes with flavours other than mint. Non-foaming toothpastes are also available. Flavour and foam-free toothpaste is available as part of our Toothbrushing Programme.
Additional local advice
Your local Childsmile Coordinator will be happy to support any specific queries regarding supporting your child with toothbrushing or attending the dentist.
Further work
At Childsmile, we are currently working with the Scottish Learning Disabilities Observatory to build a better understanding of the health and social issues facing those with additional support needs and to ensure that those individuals have equity of access to our programmes.
