Your dental health support worker
Dental health support workers (DHSW) are attached to some nurseries and schools, and provide the main dental contact point for teachers, parents and school nurses. The DHSW will support you and your child/school with:
- information on the Childsmile programme
- providing consent
- toothbrushing.
Your dental nurse
Dental nurses usually work in the dental practice but come to some schools and nurseries twice a year, to apply fluoride varnish. They give your child aftercare instructions to take home. It is important that you take these along to your next visit to the dental practice. The dental nurse will give your child information on:
- how teeth grow and develop
- healthy food and drinks
- toothbrushing.
